How Does a Cake Smash Session Work?
Every cake smash session starts with a planning consultation where we choose a theme, colors, and style that fits your family. Popular themes include floral, rustic, boho, classic, and character-inspired setups — but we can create almost anything.
On session day, we start with clean “before” portraits of your baby in their birthday outfit. Then the cake comes out, and the fun begins. We capture every messy, wonderful moment as your baby discovers the cake.
Sessions are typically booked for babies turning one, but we welcome any first birthday celebration. Book 4 to 6 weeks in advance so we have time to plan and coordinate the perfect setup.

I recommend booking 4 to 6 weeks before your baby’s birthday. This gives us time to plan the theme, source the perfect props, and coordinate the cake. Popular dates fill up fast, especially on weekends.
Totally normal! Some babies dive right in, others take their time. We give baby plenty of space to explore at their own pace. I have tricks to encourage curiosity, and even the hesitant moments make for adorable photos.
Absolutely! Popular themes include floral, boho, rustic, woodland, safari, and classic pastel. But if you have something unique in mind, let’s make it happen. Custom themes are one of my favorite parts of cake smash sessions.
Yes! Many families add a bubble bath or splash session after the smash for adorable cleanup photos. It’s a great way to end the session on a sweet, playful note.
